Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Community of Whitestone is a parish under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdioceses of America. The parish is headed by a canonically ordained and duly appointed priest. Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church has the Very Reverend Archimandrite Dionysios Anagnostopoulos as a head priest since May 11, 2008.
The aims and purposes of the Parish are to keep, practice and proclaim the Orthodox Christian Faith pure and undefiled.
The diakonia (ministry) of the Parish will include proclaiming and teaching the Gospel in accordance with the Orthodox Faith; sanctifying the faithful through God’s grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy and the other sacraments; enhancing its parishioners’ spiritual life; and adding to the numbers of the faithful by receiving persons into the Church through instruction, baptism and/or chrismation. In addition, our Parish has established educational and philanthropic activities which they foster the aims and mission of our church and edify its parishioners in the Faith and ethos of the church. All parish ministries and organizations shall be under the guidance and supervision of the Parish Priest. Holy Cross church has the following ministries:
Chanters, Acolytes, Sunday (Catechetical) School, a Greek-American day school, A Greek afternoon school, chapters of the Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA), Young Adult League (Y.A.L.), a Junior Orthodox Youth (JOY) program, a chapter of Ladies of Philoptohos Society, a Mens League, a PTA of a the Day school and a PTA of the afternoon school.
The Parish Council is a ministry and all those who serve are called to represent Christ and the Orthodox Faith to all whom they meet in all aspects of life. The Parish Council consist of the Priest, as the head of the Parish, and a number of elected lay members fixed by the Parish Bylaws. The Parish Council shall be deemed to mean also Board of Trustees or Board of Directors.
